Sleepless in Seattle

Well, we did it; we made it half-way across the country and back with TWO 2-year-olds and we lived to tell the tale.  Let me just say that our journey did not begin well...Our flight left Des Moines at 7:00am on March 3.  So, like most people preparing for a trip we went to bed, but I'm not sure if either of us really slept, until our alarm told us it was FINALLY time to be on vacation!  On our way to the airport with our wide awake twins we found out the hard way that we do not in fact have a spare tire on our Durango.  We also found out that although it may not be legal, you CAN ride in your car on the back of a tow-truck on the interstate.  I have a picture to prove it.  Thankfully we have AAA!  Our super-woman Grandma Barb came to our rescue and with a lot of luck and a little charm thrown at the TSA folks we did make our flight, but just...we made it by 2 minutes.  I don't think I will soon forget Wes running through the terminal with two car seats, a back pack and a stroller with his pants falling down!  Gotta <3 him!

Our trip definitely improved from there.  When we finally arrived in Seattle we had a FANTASTIC time.  My dear Grandma Jo planned a perfect day of lounging around her condo.  That night we checked in to our hotel near the Space Needle, and were sound asleep before 8pm.  The next morning I got to show my sweet little family around Seattle Center and to the top of the Needle.  What a VIEW!  Seattle really is a beautiful city.  We had a wonderful afternoon walking around the market and along the water.  Charlotte and Calvin especially loved the seagulls at Ivars.

We ended up in Cle Elum with my dad and Roxane that evening.  What a cook Roxane is...she pulls out all the stops, really.  Saturday we had a terrific time, I got to introduce Wes to all my cousins and relatives, and we ended the evening by getting kicked out of a hotel bar...thanks for making me feel young again Missy!

The twins had a great time at Aunt Diane's playing with their cousin Natalie...she's only 2-months older...and boy is she a cutie pie!  I could have brought her home with us. :)

Our return trip was much less eventful, thank goodness!  I think my favorite part of the ride home was Charlotte pointing to all the people sleeping on the plane, holding her little finger to her sweet little mouth and whispering: shhhh!  So sweet :)
